Background
Cody Jean was born and raised in the poorest regions of rural Kentucky, brought up by a prudish, repressed and religious grandmother. When the grandmother died in an unfortunate gopher killing incident, Cody was shuttled from one relative to another, until she wound up in the hands of the Guild, a violent and fanatical offshoot of the Watchers, where they conducted many experiments on her, including fertility processes.

When the lab was raided and destroyed by the men working for Hsu Danmei, Cody was brought to Dubai, to meet the ancient Immortal. Newly Immortal herself, she became his ward, and with the help of Frances de Rochefort, she was taught how to survive. By her choice, she is bound to him, for all of her life. Come what may, she is loyal to him, and serves him.

Verses
Five year verse: Following her initial introduction to Hsu, he disappeared with the Rani for five years. During that time, she remained at the Ranch under the guidance of Andy, Marcus, Lars and others. When he returned, she was in law school, and she balanced her job with caring for his son.

Thirty year verse: Daniel is all grown up. Cody has had a brief, disastrous marriage, producing a son named James, later adopted by Hsu. In this verse, she is harder, colder and far less romantic. She is much more focused on the elimination of the Watchers and the Guild, for the protection of her son and all she cares about. She has substantial holdings, though they are intertwined with Hsu's.

Three hundred year verse: Hsu is the Emperor of the planet Boukun. Cody is an ambassador for him, and has been away for six years. Her daughter, Roma, was a result of her wild Quickening weekend with Daniel, and she has spent over twenty years pretending that the girl is the child of a one night stand. When the truth is told, there are heavy prices to be paid, and there is one very spoiled, headstrong daughter to mold into a Princess. There are also the lingering feelings between Daniel and Cody, and the displeasure of Hsu over that.
